Clean Gain You Can Actually Control

Everything a fixed $149 booster does, plus the knob, inputs, and power it leaves out.

+38 dB Stepless Gain

Turn the knurled dial from a light lift to +38 dB. That is 13 dB more than a Cloudlifter CL-1, and you set exactly how much each voice needs.

Three Mic Inputs

XLR, 6.35mm (1/4"), and 3.5mm on one front panel. The 3.5mm jack supplies 5V plug-in power, so broadcast dynamics, handheld mics, and clip-on lavaliers all work without adapters.

Its Own 48V Phantom

Runs on 5V USB power. Flip the rear 48V toggle to run studio condensers, even on interfaces and cameras that have no phantom power.

Shielded Aluminum Body

A CNC-machined 105 × 52 × 34 mm aluminum chassis blocks RF interference from phones and monitors, so your recordings stay free of buzz.

How StudioGain Pro Removes the Hiss

Gain Is Added Before the Interface

Gain Is Added Before the Interface

The low-noise Class-A circuit raises your mic signal by up to +38 dB before it reaches your interface, mixer, or camera. USB supplies 5V power only. The audio travels over the rear XLR or 3.5mm output.

Your Interface Works Less

Your Interface Works Less

With a stronger signal coming in, your interface gain can sit around the middle of its range instead of at 100%, where budget preamps add the most hiss.

The Chassis Blocks Interference

The Chassis Blocks Interference

The solid aluminum shell shields the circuit from phone and monitor RF, so the added gain stays free of buzz and hum.

Description

Built for gain-hungry dynamic mics.: The SM7B, RE20, and PodMic all need more clean gain than most USB interfaces can provide. StudioGain Pro adds up to +38 dB before the interface, so you reach broadcast level with your interface gain near the middle of its range.

One box for every mic you own.: The XLR input handles broadcast dynamics and studio condensers, the 6.35mm jack takes handheld mics, and the 3.5mm jack powers lavalier and headset mics with 5V plug-in power. Flip the rear 48V toggle only when a condenser needs it. Use one mic at a time.

Engineered to stay quiet.: A low-noise Class-A circuit sits inside a 185 g CNC-machined aluminum chassis that shields against RF interference from phones, monitors, and USB hubs. USB supplies 5V power only, and audio leaves through the rear XLR or 3.5mm output.

Dropped my Scarlett 2i2 gain from 95% down to 45% — hiss completely gone

My Shure SM7B used to force my Focusrite preamp almost all the way up just to hit -16 LUFS, which brought up a constant white hiss on quiet podcast passages. Put the StudioGain Pro in line, set the rotary knob around 2 o'clock, and my room tone is dead silent. Having an actual physical gain dial beats a fixed +25 dB brick.

Replaced a $149 Cloudlifter and love that it includes the XLR patch cable

Solid CNC aluminum box that doesn't slide around on the desk, zero RF buzz next to my dual monitors, and it actually came with the short shielded XLR cable in the box instead of charging another $20.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need an audio interface?

Yes. The USB cord carries 5V power only and sends no audio to your computer. Audio leaves through the rear XLR output to your interface, mixer, or recorder, or through the rear 3.5mm output to a camera.

Will it work with my Shure SM7B and Focusrite Scarlett?

Yes. Plug the SM7B into the XLR input, run the included patch cable from the rear XLR output to your Scarlett, and dial in up to +38 dB. In our test, the Scarlett's gain knob sat near the middle of its range instead of at maximum.

What do I plug the USB power cord into?

Any standard 5V USB port: a laptop, a powered USB hub, a phone charger, or a power bank. No wall adapter is included. Keep the cord connected while recording. A power bank makes the whole setup portable.

Should phantom power be on at my interface?

No. Leave your interface's 48V off. The StudioGain Pro runs on 5V USB power and has its own rear 48V toggle for condenser mics.

Can I use a condenser or lavalier mic?

Yes. Studio condensers connect via XLR with the rear 48V toggle switched on. Lavalier and headset mics plug into the 3.5mm input, which supplies 5V plug-in power for electret mics, so 48V stays off.

Can I plug in more than one mic at a time?

It is built for one mic at a time. If you connect two, the inputs are summed into a single channel at one gain setting, with no separate level for each mic. It is a preamp, not a mixer.

Can I record straight into a camera?

Yes. Run a standard 3.5mm TRS cable (not included) from the rear 3.5mm output to your camera's mic input, then lower the camera's input level so the boosted signal does not clip.

How is it different from a Cloudlifter?

The Cloudlifter CL-1 adds a fixed +25 dB, accepts only XLR, needs 48V from your interface, and costs $149.00 with no cables. The StudioGain Pro offers an adjustable +38 dB, three input types, and its own power for $69.99, with cables included.
